Heritage 4
One can't be a real Korean if he/she doesn't know how to make kim chee. Kim chee is fermented cabbage which is served in every Korean meal. It's fresh and nutricious. There are hundreds kinds of kim chee. Da Hye made the very basic kim chee called "be chu kim chee".
Heritage 3
In Korea, new year is based on lunar calender so it always changes every year. New year is the time of great feast. Parents tell stories about family ancestors and new year rituals. Children play traditional games. Da Hye's favourite moment was getting 'se he don' (new year money) which she put in her bok jumoni (some sort of traditional pocket).

Heritage 1
Chu Sok day is similar to thanksgiving in western culture. It takes place during the harvest season in Korea so people are thankful for every nature's gifts. During chu sok, families visit older families and ancestral sites. The elders cut the growing plantation, as a symbolic gesture meaning the remembrance of their heritage and ancestors. Being far away from Korea, da hye and friends celebrated chu sok with other korean children by making chu sok special cake 'song pyon' and wearing Korean traditional dress 'han bok'. Here's where you can learn more about other Korean holidays.

Forest 2
Forest is a home to various species of animals. Destroying the forest means destroying all of these animals' life. Some animals may extict even before we discover them. Da Hye learnt about the forest 'habitat' by taking pictures of animals she spotted at the stream running in the heart of the forest. (psstt.....there was a dead bird too floating on the stream)

Half the earth's forest are gone, and growing demand of wood threatens those that remain. How would we love or care about the forest if we haven't even been there? Da Hye learnt that a huge trunk that grow in years can be gone in few minutes because of human. However human can also do something for the forest. Be a rainforest hero!

Free Time 7
What would you do with an empty chocolate box after you have finished gobbling them all up? Da Hye put it on her head and shouted " I am queen Nefertiti, the ruler of Egypt. I am in command and you are my slave. " Curious about who Nefertiti was.....visit Discovery Channel.
Health 5
Smoking is bad for health, no question about it. However tobacco as the main ingredient in making cigarette means life for many tobacco farmers around the world. Hm....(photo: da hye observing the tobacco plant which she thought was a cabbage) Check this site to learn more about cigarette anatomy.
